Gelo dela Cruz, the Danish Stem Cell Center, University of Copenhagen

Title:Flow Cytometry, Danstem and the World!

Abstract: Flow cytometry is a very powerful technology used to study cells.  Flow cytometry can be used to isolate stem cells, track cancer cells and even study diatoms in Icelandic lakes. The Danish Stem Cell Center Flow Cytometry core provides flow cytometry expertise and cell sorting as a service to DanStem and other units of the University of Copenhagen.  In addition, the flow core provides a link to other flow core facilities and the greater flow community in the world.

Bio: Gelo dela Cruz is the manager of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Danish Stem Cell Center and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research.  Trained in molecular biology in the Philippines and the US, he started his flow cytometry career as an operator at the New York University Cancer Institute Flow Cytometry core facility in 2006.  In 2010, he moved to Heidelberg to take up another sort operator post at the flow cytometry core facility of the German Cancer Research Center.  He was then recruited in 2012 to establish and start up the core facility at the Danish Stem Cell Center in Copenhagen.  He is a 2015 International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) Shared Resource Laboratory Emerging Leader.
