The United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme, a partner of the University of Iceland, is pleased to welcome Dr. Eddie Allison, Professor at the School of Marine Affairs at the University of Washington. Dr. Allison will be in Iceland to give a series of lectures and seminars from Monday February 3rd to Friday February 7th. In addition to these lectures, Dr. Allison will meet individually with several UNU-FTP fellows to provide valuable insight as they work through challenges in their individual research projects.
Dr. Allison has over 20 years' experience in the field of fisheries management and development in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America and the UK, as researcher or technical and policy advisor for various international organizations. He was a faculty member in the School of International Development, University of East Anglia, from 1996 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2013. He was Director of Policy, Economics and Social Science at the WorldFish Center from 2007 to 2010. He was recently (in November 2013) appointed Professor in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs at the University of Washington.
His research focuses on the contribution of fisheries and aquaculture to food and nutrition security, on governance of small-scale fisheries and the human rights of fisherfolk, and coastal and riparian people's vulnerability and adaptation to climate change.
During his week in Iceland, Dr. Allison will conduct the following lectures/seminars, which are open to the public:

Tuesday, 4th Feb 9:00-12:00, lecture, discussion and role-play: Gender, fisheries and aquaculture: from 'women in development' to 'gender and development'
14:00-15:00, lecture and discussion: Maritime masculinities and why they matter for management
Thursday, 6th Feb 13:30-15:00, lecture & discussion: Climate change vulnerability and adaptation in fisheries and aquaculture
15:30-17, Lecture and discussion: Fisheries and aquaculture as social-ecological systems: frameworks for integrated assessment and management
Friday 7th Feb 12:30-15:00, Fisheries and aquaculture: linkages to food security, nutrition and health policy.
These lectures will be held in the 1st floor auditorium at the Marine Research Institute, Skúlagata 4.
