The Good Parliament Report & Diversity Sensitive Reform in the UK House of Commons, reflections of being embedded in the House.
- A public lecture by Sarah Childs, hosted by the Faculty of Political Science and the Institute of Public Administration and Politics in cooperation with MARK, the Center for Diversity and Gender Studies.
The Good Parliament Report, published in 2016, is a blue print for a diversity sensitive UK House of Commons. It makes 43 recommendations across there dimensions: participation, infrastructure and culture. The Report was handed to The Speaker of the House six months ago. He agreed to create and chair a new group of MPs, the Commons Reference Group on Representation and Inclusion; they would take the report's recommendations and agree a work programme for the rest of this Parliament. In her talk, Sarah Childs, Professor of Politics and Gender at the University of Bristol, will reflect back on her 'impact secondment' to Parliament, and discuss the process of drawing up the report, the nature of its recommendations, and the likelihood of its implementation.
