By examining such notions as sensory order, transgressions and demarcations, the author calls attention to a sensory turn by deliberating upon both theoretical and methodological propositions toward elucidating meanings attributed to place, space and the environment; processes and politics of boundary making; and the manner in which these cumulatively shape human behaviour and group membership. The author will demonstrate how social alliances are meaningfully produced and contested. These will then shed light on the construction of ‘sensuous communities’ in social life.
