Dr. Helga Dögg Flosadóttir presents ongoing environmental research project at the Analytical Center at NMI.
Analytical Center, Innovation Center Iceland (NMI), performs chemical analysis in the sense of quantitative analysis of polluting chemicals in various types of tissue. We furthermore service the three aluminium factories in Iceland in environmental monitoring. Environmental monitoring and sample diversity is extensive. For environmental monitoring around the aluminium smelters, we perform quantitative analysis of fluoride, but fluoride is one of the main polluting substances from the smelters. In this talk I will introduce to you the environmental monitoring around Alcoa Fjarðarál and discuss the results of the fluoride analysis of last year, 2013, and their relation to weather conditions in the fjord Reyðarfjörður.
