Åse N. Bruvik, PhD student, and Grete Haaland, professor, at the Oslo and Akershus University College will give a lecture about relevant and meaningful vocational education.
Abstract: Through the Kunnskapsløftet educational reform in Norway introduced in 2006, the first year at upper secondary school (vg1) became broader in many vocational tracks. Broadening the curriculum in this manner can create challenges in maintaining the students’ interest as research shows that if the first year is not adapted to the pupil's career and interest in the future, it may not be perceived as relevant and meaningful learning. The study focuses on the question how to best safeguard student career plans and interests and ensure motivation during vg1.
The lecture will be held in English and is open to everyone.
