The talk will be devoted to one of the key physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical compounds – their solubility in biologically-relevant media.
During the past decades the problem of poor aqueous solubility of novel drug candidates is growing. Conventional approaches to the search for novel drugs, high throughput screening and combinatorial chemistry, yield increasing amount of compounds with promising receptor binding abilities. But at the same time increasing fraction of these compounds has critically low aqueous solubility which annuls their usfulness. Thus, an important issue in pharmaceutical science is to find efficient ways to improve aqueous solubility of novel drug candidates.
He will start from a brief introduction of himself as a researcher. Then, solubility will be characterized and relation of this parameter with other properties of drugs will be disclosed. The problem of poor aqueous drug solubility will be grounded.
Thermodynamic approach to analyze drug solubility will be explained. The ways to improve drug solubility will be presented examplified by the results of the research projects he was involved in.
